The Mister's Birthday

April is our Festival of Birthdays!

Now that Bubba's is out of the way...it's time for Kevin's birthday!

And since his birthday falls on a Monday this year (tomorrow), we decided to go out for his birthday last night.  We went to the Wildlife Museum and ate at the food trucks they had set up outside first.

A couple times a year, this museum has a light's out event where you bring your flashlights and you can go on a scavenger hunt for animals in the dark.  It was actually pretty fun!

 

Here we are looking like the tired and exhausted parents that we are!! :-)

 

 

So waaaaaaaaaaay back in the 4th Grade, I did a report on this bird called a Quetzel.

I've told Kevin about it a million times but he doesn't didn't believe me.

Until last night.

During our scavenger hunt in the dark, we came across a WHAT???

That's right...a QUETZEL!!!!

Booyah! You're wrong, I'm right!  Na-na na-na boo boo!

(I'm totally reverting to immature childish behavior right now and it doesn't bother me one bit!!)

Anywho, I made him take a picture as proof.

And in case you're wondering, the quetzel is the green bird on the right with the long green tail feathers!

 

Today, I made my man a yummy Turtle Chocolate Cake for his birthday!

We decided to celebrate today because one of my BFF's is coming into town on Tuesday and I just know tomorrow is going to be a crazy day cleaning and getting ready for company!

The cake DID taste as good as it looks! :-)

 

I know this year doesn't compare to last year's birthday (surprise trip to the Grand Canyon)...

but stick around until his 40th and I'll make sure to top his 30th!! :-)

Happy 2nd Birthday Bubba!!

I have to start this post off with THE CAKE!!!

I put a LOT of time, thought, planning into this cake!

I stressed over it, made plans and changed plans numerous times.

But I'm happy with the final result!

 

Since Bubba is obsessed with trains right now, it was only fitting to have a train birthday.

Complete with his own train track in the house!!

 

Someone sure enjoyed the presents!

 

And YES, he likes the cake!!! Success!!!

 

We enjoyed a little birthday fun at the park.

 

And more birthday fun at home with cake and ice cream!

*he LOVES trains

*he can pretty much say everything but still speaks cave man (ie: daddy car go work), it's adorable!

*he wants to do everything on his own

*he has all his teeth and we're just waiting on his 2 year molars

*he adores Jacob and Bryson McGee from down the street

*he doesn't like to be left out of anything

*he loves Thomas the Train, Cars, Chuggington

*he is almost constantly yelling "hiyah, argh" or something of that sort

*he is BOY through and through

*he loves both his big sisters, but gravitates more towards Alexa

*he doesn't like anybody but mommy to get him out of his crib

 

Spring Football Game

Yay for school pride!

Kevin took the girls on a Daddy/Daughter Date today to the Spring Football Game.

Barrett was staying home to take a nap, but he got into the spirit of things before they left!

 

 

The met up with Kevin's brother, Duane, and his kids and had a great time!

Why oh Why??

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother making my bed in the morning!

 

 

After he had finished piling all the pillows OFF my bed, he says, "All done!"

And then proceeds to climb his tower of pillows!

How can you be mad at that?

Easter Sunday

The girls were excited to wake up this morning to find out what the Easter Bunny had brought them!

Barrett was a little unsure, however!

 

 

The kiddos all decked out in their Easter clothes!

 

What handsome men and pretty ladies I have!

 

I'm so grateful for this Easter season.  A time to remember the sacrifice my Savior made for me and the knowledge that he lives again.  This brings me so much peace!

The Ostrich Farm

We have lived 25 minutes away from this ostrich farm/petting zoo for 3 years now and finally decided to go check it out.  After Spring Break, Alexa came home from school saying that "everyone else" in her class had gone there over the break and that we just HAD to go!

 

It turned out to be pretty fun!

 

The kiddos started out feeding the donkeys. The girls loved getting up close and personal but Barrett preferred to just watch!  There was one donkey (I think it might even be the lighter one in this picture) that would smile at you and he looks JUST like the donkey from Shrek when he does!  Hilarious!

 

 

They also have a big Monster Truck tour you can go on.  We tried it out and probably won't do it again until all the kiddos are older!  But it was still enjoyable.

 

We got to feed the ostriches...or go fishing for ostriches!! :-)

 

They had deer and goats.

 

Lorikeets, ducks, prairie dogs.  Lots to see and do!

Mortenson Family Easter Party

My little divas, all ready to head up to their cousins' house for some Easter fun!!

 

 

We went up to Darron and Ann's today for a big family Easter dinner and party.

The kiddos had so much fun playing games, hunting for eggs, and spending time with their cousins!

Alexa: The Writing Stage

I ABSOLUTELY love this new writing stage that Alexa is in.  Her learning to read and write this year has been sooooo much fun for me.  I'm constantly getting little love notes from her or finding gems like this:

Very fitting for Easter this coming weekend!

My Birthday Week...

That's right folks, I get a birthday WEEK!! :-)

It all started last weekend when Kevin took the kiddos up to his parents right after work on Friday. I've said this before, but I'll say it again...I have THE best husband who will do this for me from time to time...take the kids away for the weekend so I can get some much needed ME time!

I told him that's really all I wanted for my birthday!

 

And the kids love it too...they get to spend time with Daddy AND with Grandma and Grandpa.  And this time (now that Kevin's parents live up in Gilbert), they got to see cousins too.  The girls had their cousin Brianna come over for a sleepover on Friday night.  And then they got to go to this fun little park on Saturday!

 

And what did I do while they were gone????

Well, I got my hair done...and then came home and worked my little fanny off cleaning and organizing and dejunking.

And then I rewarded myself with a birthday Girls' Night Out with my bestie, Gretchen.

Dinner and shopping and LOTS of chatting.  It was heavenly! 

 

 

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I apparently overlooked that it was St. Patty's Day when I packed church clothes for the girls...so my sweet mother-in-law tied green ribbons onto their dresses so they wouldn't get pinched!  Good thing I have someone looking out for me!!! :-)

 

On Monday, my actual birthday, we went to Chili's for dinner to celebrate.

 

 

Then home for cheesecake!  Yum!

 

And the big finale to my birthday week...seeing WICKED!!!!

Desert Museum

Alexa is on Spring Break this week so we decided to get out of the house and do something fun!

To the Desert Museum we go!!!  The kids always have such a fun time going there!
